Mike Lyons joined Boston Consulting Group in 2005 and is a core member of the firm’s Energy and Technology Advantage practices, with a focus on climate analytics, asset decarbonization, and large-scale transformation. He is particularly interested in how to bring advanced analytical tools to hard-to-abate sectors (i.e. oil & gas, steel, cement) to ensure robust business results while enabling each client’s energy and climate transition to be successful. Mike supports the development and deployment of BCG's emissions/waste/water baselining and reduction digital tool, called CO2.ai. Mike has spent his professional years advising clients on how to shape and deploy major transformations and also supporting “in the field” directly with frontline operators in more than 20 different countries. Mike actively serves public sector clients in federal and state governments as well as private sector clients primarily within the energy and industrial goods industries.

Dr. Marco Tedesco

Lamont Research Professor; Adjunct Scientist

Marco Tedesco is a Lamont Research Professor at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University and Adjunct Scientist at the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS). He received his Laurea degree and PhD in Italy, from the University of Naples and the Italian National Research Council. He then spent five years as a postdoc and research scientist at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. He moved to CCNY in 2008 as an Assistant Professor where he was promoted to Associate Professor in 2012. During his time at CCNY, he founded and directed the Cryosphere Processes Laboratory and was a rotating Program Manage at the National Science Foundation between 2013 and 2015. In January 2016, he joined Columbia University. Dr. Tedesco’s research focuses on the dynamics of seasonal snowpack, ice sheet surface properties, high latitude fieldwork, global climate change and its implications on the economy, real estate and climate justice. He is currently affiliated also with the Data Science Institute and the Columbia Business School. 

Dr. Christian Braneon

Climate Scientist

NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies

Dr. Christian Braneon is a climate scientist at NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies and Co-Director of the Environmental Justice and Climate Just Cities (EJCJC) Network at the Earth Institute. He previously served as Co-Director of USEPA’s inaugural Environmental Justice Academy for community leaders. Dr. Braneon is particularly known for integrating satellite data and climate science into urban planning and civil engineering practice. In 2013, he developed an approach for integrating climate change projections into the City of Dallas Long Range Water Supply Plan. Recently, he advised New York City Council’s Data Operations Unit on their data science strategy as they integrated├óÔé¼┬»Landsat 8 satellite imagery├óÔé¼┬»into their temperature mapping initiatives. Dr. Braneon’s work on urban heat and climate change has been featured in broadcast and print media outlets such as CNN, CNBC, and Science. He holds degrees in applied physics and civil engineering from Morehouse College and the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Dr. Beth Tellman

Assistant Professor

Dr. Beth Tellman is a human-environment geographer whose research addresses the causes and consequences of global environmental change on people, focusing on access to water, flood risk, and land-use change. She engages in multiple disciplines and methods to “socialize the pixel” or understand the social processes behind environmental change captured in satellite image pixels and leverage satellite data to improve human well-being. Beth is an Assistant Professor at the University of Arizona in the School of Geography, Development, and Environment. She is co-founder and Chief Science Officer at Cloud to Street, a public benefit corporation that leverages remote sensing data to build flood monitoring and mapping systems for low- and middle-income countries and insurance companies. Beth received her Ph.D. in Geography (2019) from Arizona State University. She has held fellowships with Echoing Green, Fulbright, and the National Science Foundation. More on her work here.
