Fall 2022 Weeks of Welcome

As part of SPS Fall 2022 Weeks of Welcome, you're invited to watch the NY Yankees take on the Baltimore Orioles. This event is open to all incoming and returning SPS Students currently enrolled in Fall 2022 MS / MPS programs. Guests or "plus ones" are not permitted.

Tickets will be distributed digitally through the MLB Ballpark App. Attendees must download the app and set up an account to receive their ticket. Tickets will be distributed within at least 24 hours of the game's start.

The last day to register and request a refund is Tuesday, September 27th.

Harlem Heritage Apollo Theater Walking Tour is a combination
of Harlem sightseeing tour and tour of world famous Apollo Theatre.

Starts at the World Famous Apollo Theater with in depth behind the scenes tour of the legendary Theater. Learn the 88 year history from Mr. Apollo Billy Mitchell, visit the old dressing rooms and maybe even sing a song yourself in the very spot where Ella Fitzgerald and many other renowned entertainers once stood.
Two hour multi-media walking tour follows covering Harlem's over all all history with emphasis on music and entertainment, Harlem born and raised tour guide will provide narrative, complimented with portable video, sound and pictures presented along the way, this will bring the heritage to life.

New to New York City? It may be one of the greatest cities in the world- but it can also feel quite overwhelming. That's why SPS has partnered with the acclaimed AirBnB Experiences host Ben Gollan (@a_man_and_his_sandwich) to provide incoming SPS Students with an overview to exploring New York City.

Join this virtual session to learn some of the best places to explore including great restaurants, sights, nightlife, study spots, and, of course, the best New York sandwich!

Join the Office of Student Support for a workshop focused on academic writing. During this session, participants will gain information on grammar strategies, reading techniques, and more.

As part of SPS Weeks of Welcome Fall 2022, students are invited to join the Office of Student Life at one of New York's newest attractions: The Edge at Hudson Yards! This observation deck is the highest sky deck in the Western Hemisphere and, with a one-of-a-kind design, it’s suspended in mid-air giving you the feeling of floating in the sky with 360-degree views you can’t get anywhere else.

Student tickets will admit participants for up to 1 hour on the deck and students can stay for as long as they'd like during that period.

Join the Office of Student Support and SPS Librarian Kae Kratcha to learn about research and citation techniques, including how to utilize Zotero for proper citation!

Join the Office of Student Support for a presentation on all things Columbia graduate school! During this session, students will learn about academic resources such as peer tutoring and coaching, available technology & software, helpful study tips and time management tools, and more!

The SPS Student Organization Fair is an opportunity for you to meet with members of our 40+ clubs and organizations, along with many of our campus partners! Get to know all of our student leaders and discover how you can get involved here at SPS!

As an SPS student, you can access any of Columbia's many libraries, but first you have to be able to find them on campus. Join SPS librarian Kae Bara Kratcha for a walking tour of libraries on campus. The tour will include Butler Library, Uris Library (formerly the Business Library), Lehman Library, and more. Meet outside of Lewisohn Hall promptly at 3pm to join the tour.

Please note that a minimum of 5 students must register in order for the walking tour to occur. Registration will be capped at 25 students.
